Kanshia u Zahla (New Year) Baptisms (unedited clips)

Subject

Kanshia u Zahla (New Year) Baptisms (unedited clips)

Description

Unedited rushes from Baptisms on New Year's Eve; after these baptisms, observant Mandaeans will go home at sunset and keep vigil, not emerging for 36 hours. The religious reason is that on this day the Light Beings leave this world unprotected, to visit and congratulate the Creator; once they have returned 36 hours later it is once more safe to go out and resume normal life. Many Mandaeans now look forward to this as an opportunity to enjoy family time together.

See the link below the video clips for E.S.Drower's description of this festival.
